MacBook Unibody review (late 2009) | SlashGear

With the launch of the unibody MacBook, Apple have not only completed the transition to their newest laptop aesthetic but also narrowed the gap between their entry-level and Pro ranges. On face level that can only mean good things for the end consumer, but does the $999 MacBook really represent the bargain Apple tell us it is?

BookArc turns your MacBook into a desktop | CNET

"If you want to use your MacBook as a desktop (and I don't see why), there's now an easy and pretty way.

Mac accessory maker Twelve South released BookArc, a metal stand designed to hold any Apple MacBook, from the MacBook Air to the 17-inch MacBook Pro. The stand is designed to hold the laptop in a vertical position and therefore supposedly should free up your desk space. The BookArc has a compact footprint of just 10 inches long by 4 inches wide, which is significantly smaller than that of any MacBook.

The problem with this design, of course, is that the BookArc can only hold a MacBook when it's closed. To make use of the computer, you'll need a separate monitor and a set of keyboard and mouse as well as the video cable to connect the monitor to the MacBook. These extras will put quite a few things on the desk, instead of just the laptop itself." ... details and pics at link

Matte Screens Return To Mac – Rejoicing | Techgeist

"The new line of Macbook Pro’s are sleek, fast, and popular. Only one problem, take the computer outside and you might as well have an etch-a-sketch with the knobs removed and the screen burned out. You cannot do much, given the hyper-gloss screen reflecting even the smallest light and blinding children in a three mile radius.

Apple realized that this would not do just a bit ago, and has now released a matte option for the 15″ Macbook Pro. Not sure why this is only on that computer for now, but expect it to expand in the coming weeks. Nice to hear that even as Apple’s App Store division has their head up the arse of an elephant, the hardware division is still firing on all cylinders.

My request Apple, begin phasing out all physical storage mediums. You did such great work with the end of Floppy. Let’s do round two on the CD."

The MacBook turns Pro | Laptop | Macworld

"When Apple quietly updated the 13-inch MacBook a couple weeks ago, giving the company’s least-expensive—and previous-generation-design—laptop better performance than the more-expensive aluminum unibody models, it was a good hint that the aluminum models were due for a refresh. After all, what company wants to undercut its “premium” models by selling a better-performing product for less money?

Sure enough, just 12 days later, Apple announced updates to nearly the entire MacBook line. The MacBook Air gains faster processors; the 17-inch MacBook Pro gets a faster processor and a larger hard drive; and the 15-inch MacBook Pro sports faster processors, higher RAM capacity, a solid-state drive option, a longer-life battery, an improved display, and an SD memory-card slot (in lieu of the ExpressCard slot found on the previous version). All of these changes are accompanied by lower prices." ...more details at link.
