250GB PS3 Slim coming in November for $350 | CNET

"Sony Computer Entertainment America on Thursday announced that a new 250GB variation of the PlayStation 3 Slim will be available beginning November 3 for $349.99. The PS3 hardware will otherwise remain the same as the 120GB flavor of the Slim, which costs $50 less. The console maker will also continue to sell the physically larger, previous model of the PS3 which comes with either an 80GB or 160GB hard drive."

The rumors of the impending arrival of a new PlayStation 3 are growing more fierce as new hints seem to turn up almost daily in the blogsphere. The latest discovery to pop up is what appears to be an internal document from 7-Eleven--which sells games in Japan--that suggests Sony may be about to discontinue the 80GB PS3 in its home country.
According to a report by a Japanese blog that Kotaku turned into English, 7-Eleven will no longer be taking "pre-orders" for black, white and silver 80GB PS3 after Sunday, August 9. (The document this information is based on is referred to as a "notice")." ... New one coming? Details at link.

PS3 Is Now 70 Percent Cheaper To Make, Could Mean Price Cuts - Playstation 3 - Gizmodo

"During a Sony conference call, corporate CEO Nobuyuki Oneda revealed that the PS3 is roughly 70% cheaper to make than it was at launch. Estimates would put that figure at around $240—down from $800.

If these figures are correct, that would mean Sony could significantly drop the price of the console and remain profitable. Whether they would actually pull the trigger now remains to be seen, but it seems like the smart move to gain some ground on Microsoft and Nintendo."

"Ars Technica's "favorite inside source" is at it again, telling the Web site that Sony is clearing inventory on the $399 80GB PS3 in advance of "dropping the price of hardware and launching the PS3 Slim rumor in the fall."

At the same time, Ars' mole claims the 60GB Xbox 360 Pro ($299) will be replaced by the Xbox 360 Elite ($399), which has a higher-capacity 120GB hard drive. In other words, Microsoft will offer up more hard drive capacity at the $299 price point, which seems to dovetail nicely with its plans to deliver a full assortment of retail game downloads that require more disc space than Xbox 360 Arcade titles." ..more info at link.
